Evanston, WY

It didn't take long last night for the casino to react to the latest CDC advise about wearing masks.  Almost as soon as it came out, they had signs up all over that fully vaccinated patrons didn't have to wear masks.  And just as quickly, people were taking off their masks.  It'll certainly be interesting to see how this new policy affects the population.  I must admit that it was nice to not have to wear a mask all the time.

It was an easy drive across the Great Salt Lake and through Salt Lake City - mostly because we missed the rush hour traffic.  Leaving SLC is always a fun trip as you wind your way up the canyon leading to Park City.  It's a canyon filled with beautiful rock formations and a golf course down to the side of the highway.  Looks like a beautiful course to play someday.  As we crested the Wasatch Mountains, there were beautiful homes around the ski areas.  Reminded us that Char and the boys were here around Christmas time to do some skiing and visiting with her friend Carol.

Coming down the other side we stopped at a scenic overlook above a reservoir.  It was really low, but a beautiful sight.  The only bad thing was all the trash lying about.  People are so bad.  Water level was very low - some of the boat ramps were above the water line.  I imagine they keep it low to take care of the snowmelt, but that seems to be almost done (except in the really higher elevations of the Wasatch Mountains).

We had purposely planned an easy drive so it didn't take long to reach Evanston.  Nice town on the Wyoming border in Uinta County.  Arrived around noon, set up the RV and then decided to take a tour of the town.  Drove out to the Purple Sage Golf Course, but it was rather crowded so we decided not to play.  The wind helped in the decision, although that didn't seem to deter most of the golfers.  Guess we're just not really committed golfers

Still learning all the idiosyncracies of the RV.  Even had to resort to reading some of the instruction manuals (how bad is that!). We're staying at the Phillips Campground on the outskirts of town.  Wanda told us about an app called RV Parky which comes in very handy in finding someplace to stay.  Must be sponsored in part by Walmart because when you search for a town, it gives you the campgrounds and the nearest Walmart.  So who are we to not patronize them - always a great place to shop.

In the late afternoon, we stopped by the Suds Brewery and sampled their wares.  Also tried out some of the local nature spots.  The Bear River runs through Evanston and offers a lot of open spaces for walking and sports.  Outside of town is the Bear River State Park.  We had stopped there before when we were staying at the Best Western in town.  They have a small herd of buffalo, excuse me, bison.  From the looks of the little calves running around, it looks like their herd will increase.

After a glass of wine at Chez RV, we headed over to the Legal Tender, a bar and restaurant in the Best Western which we had enjoyed before.  Good meal - all the dishes are named after Bonnie and Clyde nicknames and there's even a shot-up old coupe in the lobby.  Not sure what that has to do with the Wild West, but it added to the atmosphere.

Tomorrow, we plan another relaxing drive up to Casper. It's fun to relax and take our time.
