Saturday was another rainy day on the shores of Lake
Ontario. Campsite started to fill up
with late arrivals. We really like the
site – all trees and nice and quiet.

Great day to do laundry and some shopping and then we met
Kathy and Tim at their home. Checked out
Costco to get some fuel for the Jeep – we don’t keep the tank filled while
we’re on the road – just extra weight to tow around. Same principle as not keeping the fresh water
tank filled. Went to a new brewery named
Heroes which Kathy and Tim had recently discovered. Kind of a neat history – couple started it
during the pandemic (now there’s a leap of faith). The couple have the business sense and they
have a brewer who takes care of the magic in the back room. The owner gave Vi and I a tour of the
brewery. Really fun to compare the
process and equipment to other micro-breweries we have been to. They had about twenty bags of spent grain
from the brewing process which they send to a local dairy. Hey, a happy cow gives good milk 😊. They went in with three other breweries in
the area after a National Guard helicopter crashed in the area and killed all
four on board. Each brewery contributed
a special brew in honor of the Guardsmen and then sold the four-packs and
contributed the profits to their families.
While we were there, people were coming in for their special orders of
the four-pack.
Went back to Tim and Kathy’s to do some e-mail and print out
some bills. Hey, you still have to do
the mundane things while you’re on vacation.
The campground doesn’t have wi-fi in our area so we used the T&K
Internet Café. In the evening, we had
dinner at the Cub which is a converted furniture store (just one of the many
iterations for the building). High
ceilings and exposed ventilation and utilities in an awesome setting. As we were leaving the car in the parking
lot, Tim pointed out a local butcher shop which had a unique way of selling
meat. They have an actual vending
machine in the lobby open 24 hours a day, seven days a week from which you can
everything from hamburger to steaks to every kind of cut and variety you can
think of. While we were looking at the
vending machine, the butcher from McCann’s opened the inner door and explained
the process. It’s all refrigerated
(obviously) and they restock it several times a week. It’s been on TV because it’s such a neat
concept.

Anyway, dinner was awesome (think I overuse that word) made
more so by the greatest waitress/server we have seen in a long time. When Kathy made the reservation, she said it
was for a birthday, so they brought over four shots of bourbon for us to toast
the birthday. Great way to start dinner
and something we had never experienced before.
If you want to see a different menu, Google The Cub in Rochester. All good food and some unusual entrees.
After we left Tim and Kathy, we drove back to the
campground. One of the vantage points at
the Monroe County Park is a parking area on Lake Ontario. There were dozens of cars parked there to
view the sunset which was awesome (there’s that word again).
