Right in the heart of the Minnesota lake country is where Ken and Melanie and Russ and Melinda have their summer cabins.   We left Lindenwood Campground in Fargo about noon to head down to the lakes.  Michelle and Adrian stopped by for coffee and a chance to catch up.  We hadn’t had time to get together for a relaxing conversation because of all the excitement of the graduation party.  Checked out of the campground and hooked up the Jeep and then Melissa stopped by with some leftover food from their party and some items for us to take to Ken and Melanie.

Following Melanie’s travel direction, we drove down to Fergus Falls and then across some county roads to their cabin.  Parked on the grass and plugged in a stay at their place.  Hope we don’t sink too far into the grass!

Melanie got here shortly after we arrived and we headed over to see Russ and Melinda’s cabin.  They just finished a great new addition to their place and we took a tour and admired the awesome job they had done.  Lots more room with the addition and the cabin itself has been renovated – a great place for their family to spend the summers.  Funny how the addition doesn't show in the below photo, but it's really neat with a garage and bedrooms for the girls.  Kind of cool (one might say cold) with the wind blowing off the lake, but still an enjoyable visit.

When we got back, Ken arrived from Christine and we went into Battle Lake for dinner at Stella’s.  Still quiet around here – guess it won’t be after Memorial Day and the summer influx of visitors arrives.  It stays light late up here and we were able to enjoy Battle Lake and the surrounding countryside.  Lakes are surrounded by cabins (some are not exactly what you picture when you think of the word – cabin).  When you get away from the lakes (which isn’t easy because there are so many of them), it’s all farmland and rolling countryside.  This part of the country is the first place where we have seen a lot of trees and it’s really beautiful since they have all greened up and the lilacs are in full bloom.
